The June, 2003 issue of "Accounting Technology" magazine reports the results of its research on state of the art Business Analysis Tools in its article "Analyze This" by Robert W. Scott - Editor.

It identifies Hornung & Associates’ Business Analyzer software as "An Economical Move" to business analysis.

"The Business Analyzer from Hornung & Associates combines numerical analysis with a graphical approach that enables small business to perform the kind of inspection available to large businesses"

__________

Identify and correct performance problems before they have a major impact on your business.

-         The model identifies actions you can take to reduce costs and increase profits by calculating key financial ratios and percentages using the information from your financial statements.

-         Earn a better credit rating from your investment banker and lower the interest rate you pay on loans.

-     Reduce the amount of money you have invested in inventory and accounts receivable.

-    Discover if you are operating with insufficient working capital. Are you paying your bills too soon?

-        Find out if you have too much capital tied up in fixed assets.

-         Determine how your financial performance compares to other companies in your industry. Are you competitive?

-         Manage your operating expenses more effectively.

-    Perform a detail variance analysis of your company’s financial statements and detect variances, discrepancies and undesirable trends.

The model calculates more than 275 key financial ratios, percentages and operational performance measurements. This evaluation allows the manager to make more informed management decisions.

Individual schedules are provided that compare a company's financial and operational performance to the industry standards published in Risk Management Association’s “Annual Statement Studies”; Dun & Bradstreet's "Industry Norms & Key Business Ratios"; and Leo Troy PhD's "Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios". Detail variance analysis is automatically generated.

All schedules provide item-by-item percentage and variance analysis on a company's Profit & Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. This allows the user to identify adverse conditions and areas of opportunity.

The model contains full explanations for the primary business ratios. What they mean, how they are calculated and how to use them to improve your company.

The "Cash Flow Forecasting Model" is included with the "Business Analyzer". This model allows the user to design a comprehensive cash flow forecast for a business.

The "Business Analyzer" also contains the "Comparative Financials Model" which employs the techniques of both comparative analysis and percentage analysis to achieve an in-depth examination of of a company’s financial position and performance. This analysis provides a detail breakdown of each component on the Profit & Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. The user identifies the financial periods for each of the desired comparisons.

-         Evaluate the feasibility of a new business venture before investing funds.

-     Understand the importance of timing when it comes to financing and your image.

-     Determine if your current sales trend will strain your company's cash flow, lines of credit, or raw material resources. What effect will it have on manpower levels, equipment needs and facilities requirements?

-         Ascertain the level of sales required to generate an additional $100,000 in profits. $500,000. How many orders, customers, employees or production (retail) space will be needed.

-         Find out what sales volume will be necessary to maintain profits if you reduce prices 5%.  Increase them by 2%.

-         Determine operational levels required to achieve different sales levels in orders, man-hours, units, customers, salesman and square feet expressed in annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly values. The net changes from current operational levels are provided.

-         Discover how much inventory you will need to support a 20 % increase in sales. How much receivables. Identify what affect the increase sales will have on your cash flow.  How many orders, customers or man-hours will be required per month.

-     Learn how to use 'Management-by-Exception' to improve your company's performance.

An infinite number of sensitivity analysis’s can be run to test strategic and tactical plans to see what overall effects they will have on a company's financial image and performance.

The business analysis software generates breakeven points in currency; units; orders; customers; operational man-hours; number of employees; sales representatives; and production square feet. The analysis is provided in annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly values. This allows a company to monitor its profit position on an ongoing basis.

It includes comparative Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets. This allows for the detection of significant changes or undesirable trends in revenues, costs, expenses, assets and liabilities.

A Capacity Requirements Planning & Capital Expenditure Analysis is also contained in the model.
